Nachiket Mor
India has an extensive network of about 25,000 primary health centres and 5,300 community health centres spread across all regions and States. In addition, large numbers of private and non-governmental organisations provide primary healthcare in urban and rural areas. At this juncture, they can play a critical role in managing the epidemic and providing continuity of services. An investment in strengthening primary healthcare at these times will also go a long way in rejuvenating and creating resilient health systems.
Dr. Nachiket Mor has a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. His current work is principally focused on the design of national and regional health systems. He was a member of the Planning Commission’s High-Level Expert Group on Universal Health Care, the Primary Care Task Force of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Health Commission for the State of Himachal Pradesh, and the Task Force on Global Health at the Academy of Medicine in Washington DC.
Mor helped create a new model for comprehensive primary care, pioneered by SughaVazhvu Healthcare in remote rural parts of Tamil Nadu, and offers a seminar on Health Systems Design at the Chennai based Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health.
In his last assignment, Mor served as India Country Director, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, for a little under four years, from Sep 2015 to May 2019.
He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), from Aug 2013 – Oct 2018; Member, Central Board of CRISIL from Jul 2008 -- July 2018; Member, Board of Directors, Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency Limited (MUDRA), from Aug 2015 – May 2017; Member, Board of Directors,National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), from Sep 2014 – May 2017; Member, Board of Directors, CARE, from Oct 2005 – Nov 2015.
